Hello I am a Midwife and have been so for a very long time now. I qualified in 1987 but had been a nurse prior to that. Part of the NHS since 1982.

I am reaching the end of my career and have chosen to write to share my experience of midwifery in an attempt to help future midwives and mothers.

My experience has been community and hospital based including 4 years in two stints out in Saudi Arabia. I have also worked in private healthcare in Guernsey. I have been an expert witness for midwifery care, a practice development midwife and an Audit Midwife.

I am currently working in the NHS at a hospital maternity unit till I retire in July 2015. It wont stop me writing and being engaged in the midwifery world.

My current enthusiasms are global midwifery, normal midwifery, better births, the psychological aspects of midwifery.  I can be contacted via twitter @helenyoungMW

NB I am not the Helen Young HOM at Birmingham
